Wrapping Up the Summer Harvest

August 29, 2021 –  August was actually somewhat of a slow month.  We harvested and gave away most of our vegetables.  We did process some of the peppers and made hot pepper vinegar.  We smoked paprika peppers then dehydrated them to make smoked paprika powder. It did not have as much smoke flavor as we like, so we will probably smoke them longer next year. We were thrilled that we were able to harvest a few pumpkins. These are pie pumpkins and we plan to bake something yummy for Thanksgiving.  We were told that luffa were difficult to grow, but they must love our property, they were very prolific. We will let these dry and turn them into scrubbies.

We were thrilled to have family come visit us and lend a hand. They helped us pot up some of our apple trees! We also had a wonderful seed exchange – it is so much fun talking gardening with like-minded people.

In the house, we installed more outlet and light boxes for the electric receptacles and switches and started to hang dry wall in the guest bathroom and dining room nook. It is taking forever!

There is an 80-acre parcel behind our house that has gone up for sale. We’ve walked the property a few times and have dreamed about what we could do with it if we purchased it. There is so much potential, but I doubt we will have the time or finances. Maybe a kindred spirit will purchase it.
